We went down to supper and I told Karl about how I was going to be spending my weekend.

"Glad I didn't make any plans for us or anything. So you get to play host. Did they tell you who was coming?"

"I think it's Anderson."

"Anderson Poly? Woooooooonderful."

"Why ? What's the problem?"

"Larry Brown is the problem."

"Sounds like I should know him."

"He was only the biggest loudmouth on the squad when they found out you were gay. He rode you the hardest and didn't give you any break whatsoever. Well he went to Anderson and he was on their team squad last year. I don't doubt in the least he will be on it again this year. You can count on him outing you to the squad at the top of his lungs."

"So do you think I should beat him to the punch or what?"

"Well that would be one way to handle it,but you remember.....well no you don't,but that didn't work out well for you the last time."

"It would be better than them finding out the night before or the day of the meet. That would really screw with their heads. Shit I don't see anything for it and it gives coach a day or two to replace me if he wants."

"The team would probably be better off knowing in that case."

"Well guess I know where I'm going after class tomorrow."

"You think that will make a difference to the coach?"

"No but it might to some of the guys on the team. If it makes them uncomfortable for me to be around, well that's going to affect how they perform. I won't be bringing the team down if I can help it."

"Plus it will save you a bunch of grief as well."

"I'm not so worried about the grief. It doesn't hurt nearly as much as you tell me it used to. I'm hoping it won't make a difference to the team. Hell look at how good Gary took it."

"He may well be the exception and not the rule."

"Maybe, but I'm betting on the team."

The rest of our evening went uneventfully. We found our shadow for our good night kiss and Karl returned to is dorm and me to mine. I spent a couple of hours studying and the just surfing the net and catching up on my emails.

11 pm rolled around and my phone buzzed with Karls usual message and I answered with mine and then very shortly thereafter I was asleep.

5:45 rolled around again and I was up and out to meet Gordon and this time Aiden was right there as well. We both ignored him and made our way down to the quad. The three of us started out jogging together in silence. When we were on the other side of the quad and picking up Karl,Aiden kicked it into high gear. I was tempted to play his game and from the look Gordon gave me so was he. When I stayed on my usual pace Gordon stayed there with me. When Aiden saw that we weren't going for it he slowed down again but by this time he was about a quarter of the way around the quad ahead of us.

Gordon, Karl, and I finished our laps at our regular pace.

"See you for supper Karl."

"You bet"

He then completed his lap around to his dorm.

Gordon and I were upstairs and showered quickly and then down to breakfast. Dave was with us this morning for a change and then we all headed off to Intro to business. That class was gotten through with minimal pain as was Ethics after that, though Aiden kept giving me the eye.

Accounting was the one where there was going to be a problem if anywhere. We filed in and found seats a bit away from Aiden today.

We could leave once we completed the excercise given us. I was starting to get this and was done fairly early. I waited for Gordon. I wasn't about to let Aiden bushwhack him.

Soon enough Gordon came out and was closely followed by Aiden.

Aiden was trying to get Gordon to notice him and when he didn't Aiden turned on me.

"This is all you fault! You poisoned him against me!"

Aiden then launched himself at me and I simply defended myself and tried not to hurt Aiden. True I wasn't the guys biggest fan at the moment, but I didn't want to physically hurt him either.

Gordon stood there for about 5 seconds like the proverbial deer and the next thing I knew he hauled Gordon around by the shoulder and decked him.

"Take responsiblities for your own actions Aiden. Den didn't screw things up you did and you damn well know it. Now just leave me the hell alone!"

Aiden got up and looked at Gordon and then just turned and ran.

"Screeeeeeeeeeech,crump!"

"AIDEN!!!!!!"

Yes it was Gordon who had screamed and then took off for the street with me right behind him.

"Don't try and move him,you can only aggrevate any injuries."

I already had my phone out and was dialing 911. Gordon was down on the pavement with Aidens hand in his.

"Oh god I'm sorry Aiden! I didn't mean for this to happen! Oh please please let him live!"

I went and took Gordon by the shoulders not to try and pull him away but to keep him from trying to move Aiden. The poor kid was shaking like a leaf in a high wind.

Just then the paramedics pulled in.

"Gordon come on we have to move out of the way so the paramedics can do their job."

"I'm not leaving him Den."

"That's fine Gordon but you have to give the guys some room to work."

The medics got to work on Aiden. They put an air cast on his right arm and leg and a cervical collar and started an IV.

When the ambulance got there Aiden waas quickly loaded.

"I'm going with him."

"Are you family?"

"No,but..."

"I'm sorry only family can ride along."

"Which hospital are you taking him to?

"Mercy general."

"Come on Gordon,I'll take you there myself. Pete please let Karl know what's going on. Come on Gordon."

We must have set some kind of record getting back to the dorm and to my car. We were quickly off campus and found our way to the hospital and the ER.

"I'm sorry but there is no news about your friend. He is still being evaluated. If you take a seat in the waiting room I'll have the doctors inform you when there is news"

Gordon would be leaning on me while we waited.

"I didn't mean for anything like this to happen Dennis."

"I know Gordon and this is not your fault. Remember that. Aiden brought this on himself when he tried to coerce me."

"But I didn't have to be such a jerk about it."

"You reacted just the way I'm sure 98% of people would. You overeacted I'm betting because this was the first time it has happened to you, at least from what you've told me it is."

"It is Dennis. God what the hell am I going to do?"

"You are first and foremost going to remain as calm as you can. The doctors are doing everything that needs to be done I am sure, and like the nurse said the doctors will let us know when they know."

Pete and Karl arrived about that time.

"No word yet."

Just then a doctor approached the desk and the nurse there pointed us out to him.

"Ok fellas. You aren't family so I can't be specific, but your friend is going to be just fine. He'll be staying here for a few days though."

"Can we see him?"

"He's asked that there be no visitors except his family."

"Not.......anybody?"

"Easy Gordon. He probably is just embarrassed is all. We'll just have to check back tomorrow after class."

"I'm not leaving Dennis, not until I see him and apologize."

"I won't force you to leave Gordon but it can't do you any good to be sitting here blaming yourself all night."

"I have to agree with your friend son. Aiden was pretty adamant."

Gordon turned into my shoulder and started crying again.

"Do you want something mild for him?"

"No,thanks doc. I don't think he would take it anyway."

"Suit yourself. Aiden may well change his mind by tomorrow."

"Come on Gordon. There's nothing more for us to do today."

Gordon allowed me to steer him back to my car and we would be back on campus shortly.

When we got up to our floor we found a campus cop waiting for us.

"Oh crap not again."

"Relax kid I just need a statement for my report."

"Fine. Aiden Harris attacked me. I only defened myself. Mr Bartlett took umbrage to the attack and decked Mr Harris and had several words with him. Mr Harris took off into traffic and was hit by a car. End of statement."

"Fine. Mr Bartlett?"

"What he said."

"I'm going to need more than that Mr Bartlett."

"No you don't, at least not now."

"Listen Mr Sawyer...."

"I hit him! I told him to just leave me the hell alone and he ran out into traffic and got hit. This is my fault!"

By this time Pete and Karl joined us.

"Pete take him to our room and don't you guys leave him alone for any reason. I still have an unpleasant duty to perform."

"Den can't that wait?"

"If I do then there can't be anything done about it in time."

"Then here's hoping."

"Gordon, stay with Pete and Karl I have something that I have to do,but I'll be back as soon as I can."

Gordon didn't even react. Pete more or less steered Gordon into our room.

"I'll be back soonest."
