Once again we've hit a milestone, my friends. Thank you all for hanging in. I'm still debating just how far to take the story now that we're (hopefully)coming to the close of Den's class time. Let me know what you think.

This will be the last chapter for this year as I will be hitting the road to spend the holidays in Florida. I should be back with a chapter after the first of the year. Happy Holidays to all!

I was noticed but nothing was said to me. Now I was truly confused. If the class had been being monitored, shouldn't something have been done by now? Maybe they didn't have enough to act on, maybe they didn't want to act. Did I dare push the Dean at this point?

I decided I had better not. Let the man do his job and keep my fingers out of it.

I headed over to the student union for my lunch and was once again found by Bob Watson.

"I haven't heard anything I can substantiate Dennis, but I did see a rather strange group heading from one of the class buildings back toward the admin building a bit ago."

"Oh? Anybody I might know?"

"I dare say a good portion of them seeing as they were instructors from the business curriculum, and Dean Evans, plus a couple of the board of Governors."

"Sounds like they were on a mission."

"That was my impression. You know anything about it?"

"I have not been privy to any discussions with that group of people. I got nothing for ya Bob."

"Guess I'm just going to have to dig a little deeper then."

"Just be sure not to dig so deep you can't get yourself out, Bob. There's no story worth that."

"Yeah, I'm crazy, not stupid Dennis. Later."

Pete and Susan showed up a few minutes later.

"So the last word I had from the guys this morning was that there wasn't any change."

"And there still isn't that I know of Pete."

"This is going to go right down to the wire isn't it?"

"More than likely."

"You holding up ok?"

"As well as can be expected."

"Ok then, we'll catch you later."

Shortly after I made my way over to the rec center and got changed up. I went to the floor and stretched out. There were enough guys around that someone could spot me. It being an open session I only threw my double dismounts.

I got my pool time in and then made my way to the whirlpool and Jack from the squad was there.

"So, everybody's heard about what's going on. What's the word at this point?"

"There isn't any yet. I'm hoping there will be by the end of the week, but with my luck, it's going to go right down to the wire."

"So we won't know until we leave for the all-state if you're going to be on the team or not?"

"I'm pretty sure we'll know before that. I'll be damned if I'm going to spend a week or more away from Karl if I don't have to."

"Yeah, I heard that. Not being able to spend nights with my girlfriend is a pain."

We soaked for a bit more and then headed for the showers. I checked the car over and then headed back to the apartment and started supper.

Karl showed up at his usual time.

"Any news today?"

"Not news per se, but an unusual.....sighting."

"Oh?"

"Yeah after the practicum, where I did confront Adams like you suggested, Dean Evans, a couple of the board of governors, and my other instructors were seen leaving the vicinity of the lecture hall."

"Oh to be a fly on the wall of whatever meeting followed that!"

"You ain't kidding."

"So what do you think will come of that?"

"Hell if I know lover, but I'm hoping for a replacement to show up Thursday at the very least."

"Damn. You have all of your notes for your decisions ready?"

"Had them in the backpack for a few days now."

"Why do I have the feeling this is not going to be over once the class is settled?"

"Because with my shit luck, Adams is going to end up riding me like he did Dad. Something I should probably warn Stan Bellows about."

"It'll wait lover, seeing as you don't yet know just how bad it is going to be."

"Like I said with my shit luck he'll end up being Larry's replacement."

"A worry for another time Den. Get through this one first."

"Yeah, I suppose. It'll be a while before dinner is ready."

We had our dinner a bit later and Karl got to finishing up his last assignments. After this week it was going to be pretty much review work for the finals. Except for the tax class and the practicum, I was done with everything. I could pretty much take next week off and hit the review classes the following week. So, I just kicked back and finally finished the novel I had been working on for I didn't remember how long. Karl joined me on the couch when he was finished for the night and we spent an hour watching the tube.

We sacked out around our usual time and before we knew it the alarm was going off. So we were up and out and over to campus for our laps with the guys.

"So any developments?"

"Just an odd sighting yesterday."

I then went on to explain the whole thing to them.

"That sounds promising to me Den."

"If they indeed were watching the class. I'm sure there are any number of other reasons they could be about."

"Name one, I dare you."

"Well honestly nothing comes to mind Aiden, but there must be some."

"Yeah well, I think you can take a deep breath and relax. I'm betting Dean Evans has got your back."

"I'm hoping so."

We pretty much just got our laps done after that. Karl and I made our way back to the apartment and had our breakfast and just got ready for the day. I got into the investment vehicles class and there was hardly anyone there as we were in general discussion. The tax class was more thoroughly populated and the last few bits were being covered. Mr McEmbers wouldn't look at me all class not when it was over either. I was damn tempted to ask him about yesterday, but was pretty sure the answer would have been "no comment".

So it was on over to lunch at the student union, where I kind of expected to see Bob Watson. He was nowhere in sight today. He was probably trying to get something out of those that he saw yesterday. I just hoped he wasn't digging himself a hole he wasn't going to be able to get out of.

Pete and Susan did happen by.

"So the guys told me about that sighting yesterday. Think anything is going to come of that?"

"At this point Pete I just don't know. All I can do is wait for the shoe to drop."

"Here's hoping it doesn't smack you in the head."

"Yeah, that too."

"Later Den we need to get."

"Later."

I eventually made my way over to the risk/rewards class. Once again it was sparsely populated.

"Well ladies and gentlemen, seeing as there are so few of you here we'll not meet again until the 25th for review before the finals. I hope you all use this time wisely."

I didn't try an "pump" Mrs McCauley for any information as I knew she wouldn't have anything to say about the situation.

With nothing left to do I headed back to the apartment.

Mrs Castanza was outside when I got there.

"Goodness, you're home early today Dennis."

"Classes are winding down Mrs Castanza. Until they start reviewing for finals, I only need to be there for 2 of them, and one of those isn't strictly required at that."

"Well if I know Paul he is already lamenting having to take his finals."

"He did make mention of hating to take tests the other day. I'm sure he will do fine."

"He always has. Well, soon you'll be off for the summer, and then one more year for Karl. What will you be doing for that year?"

"There's a branch office of my company here in town. I shall be working there for the year, or at least that is the plan at this time, but only if I pass my courses and the licensing exam."

"Yes, Paul told us about this whole mess you are in. Does a resolution seem anywhere at hand?"

"Not that I am aware of, but I have hopes."

"Well, I'm sure it will all work itself out in the end."

"I had better get upstairs and get something going for supper before I have to throw something in the microwave."

A statement which drew a bit of a scowl from Mrs Castanza.

So it was upstairs and I got something started for supper. While I waited for Karl I did review my portfolio for the practicum, as well as my real one. There wasn't anything in either that needed attending.

Karl finally rolled in and we had our meal and just crashed in front of the tube tonight.

Thursday morning dawned a bit overcast but it wasn't raining so Karl and I were up and out and over to campus. We got our laps in and then it was back to the apartment and we got ready for the day. I got things cleaned up around the apartment before I headed into the practicum.

We were still in the lecture hall for whatever reason. When it came time to start Mr Adams hadn't arrived. Those of us who were there started to drift off.

A few minutes later a gentleman who I had only glimpsed the other day walked into the hall.

"My apologies ladies and gentlemen. I'm Mr Wells and I shall be seeing you through to the end of things. In that vein, you are to use the closing prices as of tomorrow and final reports are due to me no later than the 23rd. Are there any questions to be addressed?"

There didn't appear to be.

"Very well then, you all have a good day. Mr Sawyer would you please see me before you leave?"

I waited while reviews were done and then made my way down to see Mr Wells.

"Mr. Sawyer, I need any and all notes that you might have throughout this practicum as soon as possible please."

"Not a problem sir."

I reached into my backpack and pulled them out.

"I was advised that they may be needed at some point."

"Very good. Now just for my own satisfaction, on your word of honor, did you use your company to assemble this portfolio?"

"On my honor, I did not."

"Very well then young man. I do believe that Dean Evans wants you to stop by his office at this time."

"I'll go directly sir."

I packed up everything and headed right over to the admin building.

"Mr Sawyer, we've been expecting you. Dean Evans will be with you shortly."

"Thank you Mrs Humboltd."

A few minutes later the inner office door opened.

"Mr Sawyer, do come in and have a seat."

I did so.

"As far as your concern with Mr Adams, it has been handled. Now I know Mr Watson will likely be by to see sooner rather than later. You can tell him that Mr. Adams has had a personal commitment come up and that someone else will be seeing you through to the end of the term."

"May I tell him who?"

"You may. Other than that, there is no further information that you may give him."

"May I be blunt Dean Evans?"

"Certainly."

"Is Mr Adams going to be in any position to cause any of my friends in the business curriculums any grief for the foreseeable future?"

"That is under consideration at this time Dennis. Certainly not this year as it is almost over."

"Was there anything else sir?"

"Actually, there is."

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL
