We finished our meal and sat there with Cam and Paul while they finished theirs. None of us made any trips to the bathroom or anything that might have been able to have been picked up. Gladys came and cleared our table while we sat and talked for a couple of minutes.

When Karl and I left, Paul and Cam came out behind us. The two guys who I felt had been following us left ahead of us and I got their license plate. Naturally I texted it to Dana Pembrose.

Karl and I headed back to the apartment and Cam and Paul followed us as far as campus where they turned in.

"Think anything will come back from Dana?"

"Hell if I know love but it is a place to start."

We hit the sack fairly early and spent the extra time in bed satisfying each other and then fell into a sound sleep, to be rudely awoken at 5:30 for our jogging with the guys. We took both cars in today as I was going to spend some time at the rec center. While I was waiting for the apparatus room to open my phone rang. It was Dana Pembrose.

"Hey Dana, what's up?"

"That license plate you sent me traces back to a rental agency. I went a little further and found the bill is going to a Trenton Corp."

I knew that name, but from where? Then it dropped for me. They were the parent company of the folks who bought Rustic Acres. Maybe this didn't have anything to do with my suspected father at all. Maybe my letter had sparked somebody to real action and these guys didn't appreciate it? But wouldn't they have just come to me and "advise" me to let it go? Why all of the sneeking around?

"Thanks Dana, I've got it from here."

"Anything I need to know about Dennis?"

"No I don't think so Dana, but if something turns up I'll let you know."

"If you say so Dennis. Take care."

I hung up then and sat there thinking about just what was going on. I for sure wasn't going to go in and use any of the apparatus in this state of mind. I headed home to think.

"What the hell Den? I thought you were going to spend the day working out?"

"So did I until Dana called."

I related what Dana had told me.

"What if this is about the letters I wrote about the nursing home?"

"Possible but doubtful lover. That's all in the hands of the state at this point and you don't have a damn thing to say about it. Plus it's only been a bit better than a couple of weeks. I can't see anything being done that quickly that it has reached all the way to the parent company. I mean they must deal with this all of the time."

"If they were dealing with this all of the time, I doubt they would still be in the business, but I get your drift. So we're back to this guy possibly being my father. He was able to identify the lawyers when they went looking, so if I go digging I have little doubt I'll be detected and that will likely give him all he needs to compel my DNA."

"Den, even if it turns out this guy is your dad, you still don't have to have anything to do with him."

"True enough but I'd know he was out there, but not what he might be schemeing. I suppose the lawyers could be right as well, that he didn't know about me until I went looking. Oh crap!"

"What?"

"Thomas has no idea and may not want to be involved in the first place. I need to call his folks."

I went and dug out their number.

"Mr Svenson, this Dennis Sawyer."

"Did you ever heard from Thomas?"

"I did but that is not what this is about. When I was looking for Thomas,it appears I might have stirred up another hornets nest. There is a gentleman who thinks he is our natural father. I haven't spoken to the man and I doubt very much that my lawyers have said anything to him about Thomas. I just wanted you to have a heads up in case they come around to speak to you. I still don't have a way to get in touch with Thomas. If at all possible you should try and make him aware. I am currently resisting any attempts to verify this man as I don't have any idea what his motivation might be."

"Most likely no more than yours Mr Sawyer. I have to imagine that the circumstances have been the same for him as they were for you."

"He must have had some idea of the possibility that he was a parent. If so, I can't see waiting 20 years to do something about it."

"No that wouldn't have been my first choice either young man, but differtent people different thought processes."

"True enough I am sure. Regardless sir I thought I needed to give you a heads up."

"Yes thank you Mr Sawyer. We shall prepare for this person, and if Thomas should convey his wishes to us on the matter we shall inform you."

"Thank you sir, I can't ask for more than that. Have a good day sir."

I hung up and then settled into the sofa.

"So?"

"They haven't been contacted yet. I can only hope the adoption agency is giving them as much trouble as they gave my lawyers. They'll try to get word to Thomas and keep me informed of his wishes in the matter."

"So now what?"

"I either take matters into my own hands and start researching Mr Trenton,or I put the lawyers on the spot and ask them for what they have."

"How does that put the lawyers on the spot?"

"They haven't given me the identity of the guy claiming to be my father."

"So tell them what you've found out and if it is this Trenton guy the cat is out of the bag and they forward the information they have and if it isn't they don't."

"Sounds like about the only thing I can do until or if he makes a move. Then again there is always the possibility that this is connected to Rustic Acres."

"Always that possibility lover, but if it is why the cloak and dagger?"

"Could be he is just testing my nerve."

"Could be but I'm doubting it over a compliant about a retirement center."

"What if it turns out to be about a whole bunch of retirement centers?"

"Then it becomes something else entirely lover and could turn into a major scandal, and that would sure as hell warrant the attention."

"Until somebody makes a move all I can do is drop a note to the lawyers."

Which is what I did. It being the weekend I didn't really expect anything until Monday.

"So what are we going to do for the rest of the day Den?"

"Other than catching a shower, no idea."

"Hit the stables?"

"We could I suppose, or the bowling alley."

"I think I'd rather go riding."

"Then riding it is."

I went in a grabbed a quick shower and got onto a pair of jeans and my hiking boots and we were on our way. Both of us kept an eye out,but it didn't appear that we were being followed today. Maybe our actions last night had put the guys on notice that they had been spotted and were told to give it up.

We had to wait abit once we got to the stables, but we were finally out for a two hour ride. We had a peaceful enough ride and the scenery was great as always. On the way home we grabbed a quick drive through meal. It was mid afternoon once we got home so we just crashed out in front of the tube until supper time.

After supper we hit the books for a bit and then just called it a night.

Sunday morning we were up and out and had our laps with the guys. Karl and I both stayed on campus this morning. We got ourselves some breakfast and then headed over to the rec center for a general workout. We hit the pool afterwards and then the whirlpool. Dana was there this morning.

"Kinda of expected you here yesterday Dennis."

"It was my intention, but something came up which had me distracted enough to think better of it."

"Anything the team should be aware of?"

"I doubt it. This will affect only me if it turns out to be anything. There shouldn't be any repurcussions for the team other than me being upset."

"Which will sure as hell affect your performance,so indirectly at least it affects the team."

"I suppose it could be looked at that way, but I'm not counting on anything happening until at least after the Crookshank meet."

"The best laid plans....."

"Yeah I hear you Dana. This one is strictly personal. No crime bosses or vindictive assholes or anything like that."

"Yeah we've certainly had out fill of that last year. Anybody else have anything to say to you yet?"

"Nope not a word, but then again I didn't workout yesterday. We told them to think about it for the next scheduled practice which is Tuesday so I really wouldn't think aybody would have anything to say before then."

"Probably not. Ok, I'll see you Tuesday Dennis."

Karl and I were out of the whirlpool shortly after and then showered and back to the apartment and a light lunch. We settled in front of the tv until it was time to go down to supper with the Castanzas, which was quiet and uneventful. We helped clean up and then we were back upstairs for the evening.

Monday morning and we were up and out for our laps with the guys and then back to the apartment to get ready for the day. We headed into our classes for the day and I did watch to see if I was being tailed again today. Either these guys were getting better at it or they weren't there.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened today and after classes I headed back to the apartment, still, apparently, without a tail.

I collected the snail mail and there wasn't anything of importance in there, I went upstairs and got things ready to make our supper, but wouldn't start things until it was closer for time for Karl to be home.

I sat down to check my email. Right at the top of the listing there was one from the Mr Jacobs.

So many of you have responded to last weeks question that I can't possibly thank all of you indidvually, so I thank you all collectively. You've come up with some interesting ideas and all but one are under consideration. That being the Andros definately will not be the father. As always thanks for reading and let's see together where this one ends up.
