5:30 rolled around much to early today, but we were up and out regardless. When we got to campus all of the guys were looking particularly satisified this morning.

The daily routine taken care of I hung around the apartment and took care of a few things until it was time to head into the practicum. 15 minutes discussions and reviews taken care of,I grabbed my lunch and then it was over to the rec center.

There were a few guys there getting their practice in so there was somebody to spot me. I worked all of my routines once again and coach didn't have anything to say so I hit the pool and whirlpool and headed home.

When I pulled up to the driveway the security gate was already open, which seemed a little strange to me as there were no vehicles in the driveway. I pulled in and made sure the gate was closed behind me and went to the back door and Mrs Castanza answered

"Good afternoon Dennis is smething wrong?"

"Just wondering why the gate was left open?"

"OH did I? I must have forgotten after the man from the power company was here. They changed meters for some reason."

"Just as long as everything is okay."

"Oh yes everything is fine."

Just to satisfy myself I stopped and checked the meter for the apartement. The old one had been analog and there was a digital one there now. When I got to the door to the apartment I took the time to inspect the locks. They didn't look to have been tampered with.

Pete was probably right and Andros was still in the back of my head and his mentioning it probably just made things worse. I got something going for supper as I knew Karl would be along shortly.

"Hey Den anything happen today?"

"No just the usual BS other than the gate being open when I got home. Mrs Castanza forgot to close it after the guy from the power company changed meters."

Karl headed for the door.

"I already checked. There is a new meter there. What's got you so suspicious today?"

"Guess you're just rubbing off on me Den. Supper almost ready?"

"Yeah."

We ate and then settled into book work for the night, and then crashed.

Humpday and we were up and at it once again. Running done and all cleaned up we headed for campus again. The day held no surprises for us soon enough Karl and I were both home again.

Thursday and Friday went much the same way with Friday night seeing me get as much done as possible as Saturay was the all day practice.

Saturday morning and Karl took off to do the jogging and I just waited around until it was time to head in for the all day.

Coach worked us hard all morning and we eventually broke for lunch. I went over to the student union, along with just about everybody else.

"So you heard anything about Kilbride yet this year Den?"

I wasn't about to lie about it.

"I heard that one of their guys is on academic suspension but nothing else Dana."

"Yeah that's all I've heard too. Well we handled them last year, we'll do it again."

"Damn eight we will."

Soon enough we were all finished with our lunches and started drifting back to the rec center.

We started another full run through in team format. It was a closed practice so everybody who could were throwing their triples. Seemed everybody had at least one by this time, most of them on the high bar. I expected to see a good many of them from the competition for the reast of the year and through the all state.

Coach finally called a halt to it all and sent us on our way. I hit the pool as almost always and then the whirlpool, which by the time I got there, was empty.

I changed up and made my call to Karl and checked over the car and headed home.

When I got there supper was almost ready, but Karl looked like he had something on his mind.

"What's up light of my life?"

"Well....I was kind of wanting to go out tonight, to Paladins. "

"A week before a meet?"

"Yeah I know my timing sucks, but we haven't been out to do anything besides supper for a while now."

"I'll compromise with you and say yes if you promise we leave after the first show."

"Done and done. Let's eat up and get changed."

So it was supper and a quick xlean up of the kitchen and ourselves as well and we were out the door.

It being Saturday it was fairly busy at Paladins. We did eventually get in and fund ourselves a small table. I stuck to non alchoholic beer. the show started soon after we got there. It was a well rounded show of different body types, some more appealing to me than others. Andy came out and did his routine with his mask on, but he wasn't fooling us any.

When the show was over I started to get up and found myself rather unsteady, and I shouldn't have been. I sat back down.

"Karl, somethings wrong here. I'm woozy and I shouldn't be. Don't let them take our empties away."

Mr McEmbers must have sen me sit back down or something and came over to our table.

"Dennis, What's wrong?"

"Not sure, but I'm woozy and I shouldn't be. I ordered non aclky beer."

"Damn it not again."

"Again?"

"You've probably been roofied."

He made a motion to a couple of guys and Karl and I were helped inot he office area.

By this time the room, nor anything else for that matter, was exactly in focus.

"Dennis can you understand me?"

"Yeah"

"You and Karl stay here. Somebody will be right outside to watch over you both."

"Whatever."

With that Mr McEmbers was gone, and I just kind of drifted off.

There was no telling what time it was when I opened my eyes again. I tried to focus, but gave it up as a bad idea and just closed my eyes again.

The next time I opened my eyes Mr McEmbers and his husband were both there and things were a bit more in focus.

"What the hell happened?"

"We're pretty sure you and Karl were drugged. You realized something was wrong before they took full effect, probably because you don't drink. We kept you here instead of sending youto the hospital as I figured you wouldn't want the publicity this close to a meet, and frankly, we don't need it either."

"Understandable and appreciated. Any idea who or why?"

"Who no, why, so they could mug you easier."

"You seem pretty sure."

"It's happened twice since we reopened."

At which point my phone started ringing;it was Gordon.

"You guys coming today?"

"Go without us Gordon. I'll explain tomorrow."

"This ought to be good, later."

"You guys should be good by this evening, certainly by tomorrow."

"I hope to hell with the final practice Tuesday."

"Let us take you home. Neither one of you should be driving right now. You just need to take it easy the rest of the day."

"I guess somebody had better."

Karl and I stumbled out to Mr McEmbers car and his husband got Karls car and followed us. We soon enough got home and upstairs and into our place and Mr McEmbers and his husband were off. Karl and I just pretty much crashed until mid afternoon.I took a hot shower and almost felt alive. Karl wasn't that far behind me.

We settled until I heard Paul and Cam pull in. We got ourselves together and headed down to help get the table set.

"Damn you guys look like three days of bad weather."

"What can I tell you Paul,we went out last night and apparently were drugged. We were at Paladins and the owners got to us before they took full effect."

"Any idea who or why?"

"So they could mug us, which didn't happen."

"McEmbers have any idea?"

"If he does he isn't sharing."

"You going to be ready for the meet next week?"

"I should be."

"Any intel?"

"Just that one of their guys is on suspension."

"So they probably aren't going to be fielding their strongest team?"

"A fair assumption Cam."

After that it was pretty much a quiet dinner. We helped clean up as usual, but I stopped the guys before they left.

"If we aren't there in the morning tell Gordon and Aiden what went down. We might well just take the whole day off."

"Will do, but otherwise keep it to ourselves?"

"You can let Susan and Pete know so they don't worry, but I'm sure Gordon will take care of that."

Karl and i went upstairs and pretty much just crashed.

When the alarm went off in the morning I rolled over an looked at Karl.

"Are we going for it?"

"Might just as well. I'm feeling almost normal."

"Then let's get to it."

So we were up and out and over to campus. We explained to Gordon and Aiden what had happened and though we weren't as quick about it as normal got our laps done.

The rest of the day went along pretty much as normal.

Tuesday morning and we started all over again.

By the time it was time for the final practice I was getting along just fine, right up until the coach called me to his office.
